Overview
Paul Seo, a Democrat, is the mayor of Rancho Palos Verdes and a deputy attorney general at the California Department of Justice.1 He previously served as a deputy district attorney prosecuting violent felonies and as a U.S. Army officer.2 At a forum, he said the state should plan a fossil fuel phaseout but warned that closing refineries too quickly could raise gas prices, and he opposes single-payer healthcare, calling instead for stable state healthcare funding.3 He proposes increasing police and prosecutor staffing, expanding emergency response, cutting housing construction regulations, and improving access to affordable healthcare and childcare.4 His campaign credits him with prosecuting the 2021 Huntington Beach oil spill, creating a public safety division, and securing landslide relief funds.5
