Overview
Michael L. Neal is a pastor and the founder of a nonprofit community development corporation.1 He runs the Leading with Literacy Program, is vice chairman of the Greater Bronzeville Community Action Council, and has served as a parent representative on Kenwood Academy's local school council.2
His main focus is improving early childhood education.3 He wants to see more read-aloud programs citywide and recruit philanthropic organizations and corporations to provide volunteers.3 He has said any school consolidations should be decided case by case and that teachers should have an important but not dominant voice in district decisions.4 He says his literacy program has distributed more than 50,000 books, and he started a Real Men Read program in Bronzeville schools.2
