Overview
Fred Crespo has represented the 44th District since 2007.1 He is a former Hoffman Estates trustee and Peoples Energy executive supervisor.2 In 2025, the House speaker removed him as an appropriations committee chair and expelled him from the Democratic caucus over a lack of communication.3
He has pressed for spending limits, withholding his vote on a revenue bill and warning of a fiscal cliff.3 In 2024, he sponsored bills to provide $35 million in grants for districts serving new arrivals.4 He proposed freezing property taxes for seniors.1 His campaign says he passed laws in 2021 and 2023 requiring hospitals to inform nurses of their workplace rights and establishing trauma-informed interview procedures for child sexual assault victims.5
