Overview
Cynthia Torres is president of College Decisions LLC, a Pasadena educational consulting firm.1 She served 11 years on the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Financial Oversight Committee.2 Her campaign says she served on Pasadena Unified's Citizens Oversight Committee.1
She could vote to close schools if evidence and the community support it, but cited a Stanford study finding little evidence that closures save money.2 She proposed creating a financial oversight committee modeled on the one she chaired in Santa Monica-Malibu.2 She proposed dedicating the rest of the year to listening sessions before major decisions.3 She wants greater attention paid to mathematics instruction alongside literacy.4 Her campaign says she will pursue fundraising, asset management, and municipal partnerships to expand revenue.5
